What others have said

Earlier this week we had match 2 of The Accessibility Game, refereed by Julie Woods, That Blind Woman. As part of the game we said WHY NOT to tasks to learn about services available for those with impairments, Acknowledged that not all “disabilities” are visible, Learned about ‘ableism’ – The belief that typical abilities are superior, and Realised that most of our environments have been created for able-bodied people. We are only at the start of our accessibility journey but for me personally, I have already learned a significant amount and am committed to improving access for all.

I was quite impressed at your workshop content –  I spent a year working as primary carer for a tetraplegic so I thought I was going to be all over accessibility awareness but you proved me wrong and I am very grateful for it!

Since you got me thinking about accessibility issues within our organisation I realised that our events and training enrolment form didnt have an accessibility needs field for people signing up. I got straight onto our CRM developers and now you’ll find that there is an ‘accessibility requirements’ field next to the ‘dietary requirements’ , and any information we capture there will be saved in that persons notes for any future engagements too. If you hadn’t come in, I probably wouldn’t have noticed, so you’ve already helped us to make a positive change towards removing barriers!

Your game  was so much fun! You had the room in the palm of your hands. There was such great discussion and lots of things to take away to think about

You are passionate about opening our minds to the world of disabilities in a warm, heartfelt way, and most of us don’t know that we need to know this stuff.
